David Smith, 56, has always dreamt of an exciting life, but his crippling fear of flying kept his fantasies grounded—especially his dream of becoming a skydiving instructor. Meanwhile, resentment from his wife Daisy only grows as David’s life stagnates. But in 1941, their quiet Cotswold existence is thrown into chaos when David receives an urgent request from none other than J. Robert Oppenheimer, asking for his help in developing the atomic bomb. Forced to sail across the Atlantic, David must confront his fears and finally live outside his comfort zone—if he wants any chance at salvaging his crumbling marriage. But newfound confidence comes with wild consequences. Soon, David’s wielding a gun with a little too much enthusiasm and embroiled in a bizarre romantic fling with a rash-covered 90-year-old named Vanessa. Who knew one phone call from Oppenheimer would unlock the door to the adventurous life David’s always wanted? From atomic bombs to bacon butty backs, this is an all-made-up story like you’ve never heard before!
