Episode 5 - Lighting, Controls, Action! How Lighting Controls Are Being Used To Reduce Carbon Footprints
July 31, 2023 · 26 min

Hello and welcome to the fifth episode of the Guidehouse Insights’ Plugged In Podcast! On this podcast we do a deep dive on energy industry topics, from EVs to healthy homes.

This month we spoke to Wendy Davis, a Senior Research Analyst on the Guidehouse Insights team about her report, “Lighting Controls for Commercial and Industrial Buildings.” Wendy’s research focuses on lighting and intelligent buildings controls. She has expertise in lighting technologies, lighting measurements and standards, policy’s influence on the lighting industry, and lighting quality. (Basically all things lighting.) She holds a BA in psychology and physiology from the University of Minnesota and an MS and PhD in vision science from UC Berkeley.

In this episode, we talk lamps, luminaires, and LEDs. We discuss drivers and barriers to implementing lighting controls. And we address a few specifics: What type of lighting should you have to make you most productive at your job? What are bad lighting designs? What are cool lighting designs? How do lighting controls markets differ around the world?

This episode, Edie Wilson is joined by a new regular co-host, Jake Foose. He is another analyst on the mobility team - who co-authored the automated vehicles report referenced in Episode 4!
