In this lesson of Sūrah Yūnus (verses 34–41), Shaykh Dr. Aḥsan Ḥanīf explores powerful arguments presented in the Qur’ān against shirk (associating partners with Allāh), highlighting how none besides Allāh can begin creation or provide true guidance. The verses affirm the divine origin of the Qur’ān and challenge doubters to produce anything like it. The lesson also addresses the common response of denial due to ignorance and arrogance, emphasising that belief is ultimately in Allāh’s hands. The Prophet ﷺ is reminded to remain firm and disassociate from those who persist in rejection.
In this second episode of The Speaking Quran, Seyed Jawad Qazwini continues laying the groundwork for the series by further examining the key references in Quranic tafsir (interpretation). Building on the previous discussion, he introduces and critically analyzes both Shia and Sunni sources that will be referenced in future episodes. By exploring the strengths and methodologies of these tafsir works, this episode completes the essential introduction to the study of Quranic exegesis, preparing viewers for the in-depth discussions ahead.📌 Watch Episode 1 here: youtube.com/watch?v=_m-S4Hjn1uQ🔔 Subscribe for more insightful Quranic discussions!#Quran #Tafsir #IslamicStudies #QuranicExegesis #Islam

In this episode, Matthew Pieknik and Christopher Russell speak with Gohar Homayounpour about her book Persian Blues, Psychoanalysis and Mourning (Routledge, 2023)
Psychoanalysis is, Homayounpour tells us early in the interview, “a profession for dreamers, for people who don't know what to do with themselves. for freaks. This is not a profession for people in suits at universities who have a clear idea of the status quo. It's the absolute opposite. It's the carnival, you know, it's still unofficial, it's the subversive because that's the discourse of the unconscious. But this is a dangerous business, you know, and it should be for both analytic subjects in the room. I'm in favor of absence. I'm in favor of disturbance. I'm in favor of pollution and darkness. I think these are things that need to be celebrated.”
In Persian Blues, Psychoanalysis and Mourning, Gohar Homayounpour plays a theme and variations on loss, love, and family against the backdrop of Iran’s chaotic recent past. Homayounpour is simultaneously Shahrzad, the fearless storyteller, and Shahrzad’s analyst: subjecting fairy tales to fierce new insights, while weaving an indigo thread through her own devastation on the death of her father and the wonders and horrors of motherhood. A blue thread, or melody, runs though the separations and emigrations of her family and patients driven or broken apart by war, and likewise through the fraught world inhabited by Persian women. This book breaks new psychoanalytic ground, offering a radical rejection of traditional clichés about Iran, and Iranian women, but its unsparing elegance transcends any political agenda, bridging the ocean of a shared and tragic humanity. Persian Blues, Psychoanalysis and Mourning will be of great interest to psychoanalysts and psychoanalytically informed readers, as well as those interested in grief, Iran, and women’s experiences.

And Shayṭān, the Accursed Devil, uses these to discourage us from repenting to our Lord, Who is Merciful, and demoralize us from persevering through our faults, sins, and mistakes, making us think that we’ll never make it. But our beloved Guide and Messenger ﷺ warned us from thinking just our deeds alone could save us when he said, “The deeds of anyone of you will not save you" They said, "Even you will not be saved by your deeds, O Allah's Messenger?" He said, "No, even I unless and until Allah bestows His Mercy on me. Therefore, do good deeds properly, sincerely and moderately, and worship Allah in the forenoon and in the afternoon and during a part of the night, and always adopt a middle, moderate, regular course whereby you will reach your target ( meaning Jannah/Paradise)”. – See Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī (English and Arabic). So know that what you do in worship to your Creator is appreciated, accounted for, and weighed and considered. And that it just may to you and I our entire lives, striving mightily, no matter how week we get, to achieve the ultimate goal:“And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger, has truly achieved a great triumph – وَمَن يُطِعِ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ فَقَدْ فَازَ فَوْزًا عَظِيمًا ٧١” – Sūrah al-Aḥzāb v. 71.May Allāh accept from us and forgive us our shortcomings, overlook our sins and mistakes, and make us from the People of Paradise.
