It's the start of the Post-Dennis Allen Era on Sunday in the Dome as the Saints take on the hated Atlanta Falcons. We've got your predictions in this episode plus a quick preview of the game and how we think the team will do in the first game under new Interim Head Coach Darren Rizzi. Will it be RIZZmas come early or will the injuries, etc. still be too much to get the W? We've got ya covered with our predictions in this one. TUNE IN! WHO DAT?!
The day has finally come. The news dropped this morning that the Saints FIRED Dennis Allen - much to the surprise of those of us who never saw this franchise firing a coach mid-season. Some of us say “props to Gayle”, others may say, she should have done more earlier. Either way - while it HAD to happen - firing DA is only the start of many moves that need to happen to get this franchise back to being a winner. Starting with Mickey! This one is a deep dive, but a great and necessary listen/watch if you want to be a Saints fan who sees the whole picture. TUNE IN! WHO DAT?!
Our Saints actually go into this one as a pretty decent favorite by NFL standards for betting lines. Is this the week they can right the ship and get a W? or...at least start the process of righting the ship... We hand out our win/loss predictions, plus game MVP's PLUS, another week of COREY'S LOCK OF THE WEEK. He's got a good one in store for you this one. A rare yet consistent occurrence every year when teams with poor records play eachother. TUNE IN to find out what he has as his LOCK. Don't forget to LIKE and SUBSCRIBE to our YouTube Channel! This losing thing is definitely getting old, but as Saints fans who very much remember the "pre-Brees" days of the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s, maybe it feels like old times? Not in a good way though. We recap what we think "went wrong" in the Chargers game, besides the fact that it's now clear we don't have a viable backup QB behind Carr. Defense was absolutely improved, but offense's absolute inability to move the ball rendered this one, essentially, a moot point (as much as we hate to admit it). That said, we do blame much of our struggles, in the face of these injuries, on a lack of depth and failure to draft for said depth - which - places the blame squarely on Mickey Loomis and the front office for the past few years of personnel management. BUT, that isn't to say the head coach is without blame at all for this stretch either. We all agree, he needs to go too. We dive deep into this "State of Affairs" issue in this episode. Definitely worth a listen.TUNE IN! WHO DAT?!
Our Saints have been making it harder every week to pick em to win, but with the team appearing to get a little healthier, can they avoid dropping to 2-6? PLUS, Corey’s Lock of the Week, sponsored by Norton Leatherman Spine! TUNE IN to see what we have in store for you this week.WHO DAT?!
We took a few days off after the Saints' debacle of a loss to the Broncos on Thursday Night Football. It's obviously apparent that this team has gigantic issues to address if they have any hopes of getting back into the playoff picture and actually making "something" of the season. Yes, injuries are a factor, especially on offense; but the team's performance leaves one to only conclude it's a much larger issue. SPEAKING OF, our defense utterly failed to "bounce back" after a poor showing against the Bucs and turned in an even WORSE performance against the Broncos, allowing TWO HUNDRED yards rushing in the FIRST THREE QUARTERS. It's unacceptable on any level, BUT we get into a pretty good debate on just how much of the defense's terrible play can be blamed on the offense's inability to sustain drives and keep our defense OFF the field. TUNE IN for a solid all-encompassing episode. WHO DAT?!
"No rest for the weary" is usually just a cheap saying, but it seems like the Saints are feeling every bit of it given the CVS receipt/Dead Sea Scroll style injury list heading into their matchup on Thursday Night Football vs. the Denver Broncos, which features BOTH the Saints Hall of Fame induction of the greatest NFL football player of all-time, DREW BREES; AND the RETURN of Coach Sean Payton. We each lock in our game predictions in this one, so be sure to tune in to catch em. ...speaking of LOCKS...this episode features our FIRST sponsored segment, known officially as "COREY'S LOCK OF THE WEEK" brought to you by the Norton Leatherman Spine Center of Louisville Kentucky - the very FIRST sponsor of the 28 to 3 Podcast. We won't spoil any surprises, but let's just say you will NOT want to miss this brand new segment. Must watch til the end to catch it (but it's a short episode, so shouldn't be too hard). TUNE IN! BEAT THE BRONCOS! WHO DAT?!
We called it a "must win" going in and we were mostly optimistic, thought the defense would fare better than they did vs. the Chiefs, thought we'd feed off the excitement of Spencer Rattler's debut (which we all agree was all you could really ask for from a rookie debut), BUT...the Saints fell short and now it appears that the season's hopes hang by a thread. And...no rest for the weary as the next matchup comes on Thursday in the much-anticipated return of Sean Payton to the Dome wearing another team's threads, not to mention the Drew Brees Saints Hall of Fame induction happening the same night. With all of that, we had a lot of thoughts in this one, including what we think the team should do at QB going forward. Do we feel like the answer is simple and Derek Carr should retake the reins regardless of how Rattler looked on Sunday and going forward? Did we see enough out of Rattler to consider rolling with him for the remainder of the season? Or is that decision simply premature at this point? Plus, what the hell is up with the defense? How much is to blame on the offense's inability to sustain drives, thus keeping an aging unit on the field longer than it should be? Is there even ANY excuse, regardless of age/offensive woes for giving up almost SIX HUNDRED yards to the opposing offense? We get into all that and more in this one. TUNE IN! WHO DAT?!
We give our predictions for the Saints vs. Bucs matchup, but before we get there, we take a necessary dive into the announcement that Spencer Rattler will be taking the helm this week as the Saints Quarterback. Can’t remember there ever being this much hype and excitement ahead of a start by a Saints QB since Brees, much less a ROOKIE Saints QB. But, we absolutely see the reasons for excitement. We also get into things we DONT see the reasons for, like the takes coming out of Saints twitter, etc, such as the conspiracy theories on whether Rattler’s start is something DA and Carr actually did not want and whether certain fans won’t be “happy” if Rattler succeeds because it won’t further their point about Carr vs. Rattler as true QB1. We get into all of that and more in this one. LISTEN IN! WHO DAT?!
We recap the Saints tough loss to the Chiefs on MNF in this one. Since this was truly a "team" loss, no matter how you splice it, naturally we have a lot to say about what went down in Arrowhead and how exactly it went down. Just when we thought the "coaching" was actually putting players in the right positions to win....they proved us wrong again! That said, this one definitely wasn't without player faults either - far from it. Also, could we really have expected more out of the offense with just how absolutely decimated the OL was? Or...did Carr panic just a bit too much and took us out of position to win? Also, despite "holding" the Chiefs to 26 points, can we really say the defense is without fault either? ALSO, and perhaps the BIGGEST question on Saints fans' minds is the renewed RATTLER VS. HAENER debate. There doesn't seem to be much disagreement among Saints fans on the idea that Rattler should start over Haener, but do we see it the same way? What would we do if we were the coach? More importantly, perhaps, what do we THINK the Saints/DA & Co. will do come Sunday vs. the Bucs. LISTEN IN! WHO DAT?!
