Since 2020, intimate partner violence jumped across the U.S. with New York experiencing a 10% increase in domestic violence reports and San Antonio receiving 18% more calls related to family violence. Marginalized groups are the hardest hit with them experiencing an increase of 50% or more in terms of the rate of abuse. 50% of domestic abuse incidents aren’t reported for reasons like having a lack of privacy, worrying others won't believe them, losing confidence, and losing immigration status.

ProPublica interviewed 15 teens and young adults in Bensenville, Illinois, who said they work or have worked as minors inside more than two dozen factories, warehouses and food processing facilities in the Chicago suburbs. The teens use fake IDs to get the jobs through temporary staffing agencies that recruit immigrants and, knowingly or not, accept the papers they are handed. They often don’t even know the names of the factories where they work, they refer to them, by the product they make or pack or sort.
