Spotlight on the arts is KUCO’s weekly program celebrating Oklahoma’s vibrant arts community, offering interviews with guests, exploring individual artistic endeavor, upcoming concerts, events and exhibits, and learning more about the arts organizations that serve our community.

For our April 25 episode I sit down with Dr. Susan Adams-Johnson, Megan Barth Argo, and Erika Vasquez to discuss the production Portugal Calls, a collaboration with Scissortail Productions and Classen SAS. Then I sit down with Mark Taylor to learn more about the OKC Philharmonic Show House 2024 Opening May 4. Next I sit down with Logan Fish and Laurie Purcell with St. Luke's Methodist Church to learn about Into The Woods opening at Poteet Theatre on May 3 and the Community Orchestra Concert on May 5. Finally I sit down with Marcus Leonard with JRB Art at the Elms to learn about their new exhibition featuring 6 artists opening May 3.
For our April 18 episode we sit down with Scott Guthrie, director of OCU's production of the rock opera 'Rent' happening April 19-21. Then we sit down with Dr. Mark Belcik and Phyllis Smith with the Oklahoma City Symphonic Band to learn about their joint concert with the Deer Creek Symphonic Band and guest composer, Brian Balmages. Next we sit down with Royce McLarry with Chamber Music in Oklahoma and discuss the Shanghai Quartet returning to OKC this weekend. We then sit down with Dr. Greg White, Haley Kinnard, and Sarah Munsell with UCO's production of Legally Blonde happening April 25-28 in Mitchell Hall Theatre. We're also including a bonus encore presentation of our interview with Dr. Tess Remy-Schumacher and Dr. David Forbat. Their FACS Recital has been rescheduled for Thursday, April 18th in Radke Fine Arts Theatre in the Center for Transformative Learning.
For our April 11 episode I sit down with Dylan Madoux with the Oklahoma Baroque Orchestra to talk about their all-Mozart program featuring soloists John L. Edwards and Francis Liu. Next we sit down with Dr. Zachary Daniels with the Oklahoma Community Orchestra and discuss their Young Artist Competition Showcase Concert happening at OC April 16. Then we sit down with Dr. Brian Lamb and Tina Kambour with the University of Central Oklahoma's College of Fine Arts and Design to learn about the collaboration between the Kaleidoscope Dance Company and UCO Wind Symphony. Finally we sit down with Megan Barth Argo and Dr. Thomas Dickey with the OSU Greenwood School of Music to discuss the 2024 President's Masterworks Concert: Opera Gala.
For our April 4 episode we sit down with Dr. Tess Remy-Schumacher and Grammy award-winning composer, producer, and arranger Kitt Wakeley to talk about the UCO Chamber Orchestra concert on April 9th. Next we sit down with Lemuel Bardeguez and Lynne Waggoner-Patton to chat about The Silhouettes: Love Story, coming to OCCC's VPAC Theatre April 18th. Then we sit down with Dr. Sallie Pollack with the UCO School of Music to discuss the biennial Kuleshov International Piano Festival and Competition returning to UCO. Finally we sit down with Amanada Bleakley and Laurie Gormley with the Paseo Arts Association to chat about the First Friday Gallery Walk in the Paseo Arts District.
For our March 28 episode we sit down with Leslie A. Spears, Director of Marketing and Public Relations with the Myriad Botanical Gardens. They will be hosting the Tulip Festival at the Gardens on March 30th and 31st from 10am until 5pm.
For our March 21 episode we sit down with Michael Baron, Martin Sorrow, Logan Corley, and Taloria Merricks with the Lyric Theatre to discuss the Oklahoma premiere of Martin's deeply personal musical titled "The King of Pangaea." Then we sit down with pianist Dr. Ryan Fogg who is coming to the University of Central Oklahoma on Tuesday, March 26 at 7:30pm in Radke Fine Arts Theatre.
For our March 14 episode we sit down with Puffer Jones with the Kemp Concert Series to talk about The United States Navy Band Sea Chanters that will be coming to Oklahoma City this weekend. Then we sit down with Lemuel Bardeguez and Raul Midon to discuss Raul's career and his upcoming performances at OCCC's Little Theater on March 28 and 29.
For our March 7 episode we sit down with Dr. Greg White with UCO's Broadway Tonight to discuss their collaboration with The Jewish Theatre of Oklahoma in a production of Milk & Honey. Next we sit down with Dr. Julie Yu with Canterbury Voices to talk about their upcoming concert titled "For All The Saints (Especially Patrick)." Then we sit down with Dr. Karl Nelson with the UCO Choirs to learn about their Spring Choral Concert happening March 12. We then sit down with Dr. Brian Lamb and composer Christ Prather to discuss Chris's new work being premiered by the UCO Wind Symphony. Next we sit down with Warren "Puffer" Jones of the Tactus Chamber Orchestra and Vocal Ensemble to learn more about their presentation of JS Bach's St. John's Passion. Finally we sit down with Alexander Mickelthwate with the UCO Symphony Orchestra to discuss their performance on The President's Concert.
For our February 29 episode we sit down with Dr. Rob Glaubitz with the UCO School of Music to discuss the UCO Opera in conjunction with the Department of Dance and their performance of Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice. Next we sit down with Dylan Madoux with the Oklahoma Baroque Orchestra to talk about their concert featuring Frederick the Great's Musical Court. Then we sit down with Marcus Leonard with JRB Art at the Elms to discuss their newest exhibition opening this Friday. Next we sit down with Amanda Bleakley and Catherine Chapman with the Paseo Arts Association to talk about the First Friday Gallery Walk happening Friday, March 1st. We then sit down with Kelly Moore with Canterbury Voices to learn about their upcoming production titled For All The Saints: Especially Patrick. Finally we sit down with Laurie Purcell and Logan Fish with St. Luke's Methodist Church to talk about their Community Orchestra Concert and Fiddler on the Roof production coming to Poteet Theatre.
For our February 22 episode we sit down with Eric Grigg and Mary Wierick with the UCO School of Music to discuss their upcoming FACS Recital on Sunday, March 3 at the Jazz Lab. Next, we sit down with Dr. Zachary Daniels with the Oklahoma Community Orchestra to talk about their Children and Youth Concert happening this weekend. Then we sit down with Lemuel Bardeguez and Joshua Henry to talk about the production "Get Up, Stand Up," coming to OCCC. Finally, we sit down with Tyler Woods and Bell Reeves with Oklahoma Shakespeare in the Park to talk about their upcoming production of "Twelfth Night."
