Episodes

On this month's episode we are joined by special guest host, epidemiologist and wargamer, Dr. Eric Lofgren! Eric was a presenter at the first ever Warhammer academic conference and he was kind enough to share his time with us discussing his presentation and talking about what that experience was like. His presentations were focused on Horus Heresy specific events and was a fascinating guest. You also get to hear three grown men excitedly discuss their favorite diseases. Somehow, we went an entire episode with a real life plague doctor and didn't make a single Nurgle reference! Eric stayed with us to discuss the upcoming Dark Mechanicum releases, shared some pro-tips on playing Imperial Fists as a Heresy army, and took part in our closing listener Q&A.Check out Eric's blog at Variance Hammer and follow him on Bluesky.Happy Halloween, don't die of plague!Logo Design by Nikol KingIntro and Outro Music by Skull CultistBackground music by Orthokeras with vox from Alia Synesthesia and Nicole TurnerAudio Production designed on the Forge world of the Vorpal Goat.
Our September podcast arrives just under the wire! Heresy news is ramping up so we had lots to talk about starting with the return of Heresy Thursdays to Warhammer Community's site, the announcement of Mechanicum for Legions Imperialis, the teased Siege of Terra animation coming to Warhammer+, Space Marine 2, an academic conference on Warhammer, and finally the Nova Open Heresy "roadmap", such as it was. Simon talks Mechanicum hobbying, and then dives into the recently released supplement, The Martian Civil War but is interrupted by the least sexy cat fight imaginable. We conclude with our usual listener Q&A!Logo Design by Nikol KingIntro and Outro Music by Skull CultistBackground music by Orthokeras with vox from Alia Synesthesia and Nicole TurnerAudio Production designed on the Forge world of the Vorpal Goat.
Our August episode is here, in which Simon talks about the various games of Heresy he played, the new friends he made along the way (some of them being plague toads) as well as the simple campaign he took part in out of his favorite game shop, Terracrux in Tacoma, WA. We talked over the release of Legions Imperialis: The Devastation of Tallarn, and then got into the nitty gritty of assembling plastic Mechanicum. As usual, we close with listener Q&A concluding with an intimate consideration of the primarchs.Logo Design by Nikol KingIntro and Outro Music by Skull CultistBackground music by Orthokeras with vox from Alia Synesthesia and Nicole TurnerAudio Production designed on the Forge world of the Vorpal Goat.
It's a slow month for Heresy news but between Steve's opinions on politics, volcano discussion, and Simon getting dwarf pilled for the Old World, we did manage to discuss Heresy campaign gaming, the upcoming Mechanicum releases, and the Warhammer Tacoma Open before closing up with listener questions!Logo Design by Nikol KingIntro and Outro Music by Skull CultistBackground music by Orthokeras with vox from Alia Synesthesia and Nicole TurnerAudio Production designed on the Forge world of the Vorpal Goat.
Somehow, we've been doing this for a full year and you people are still listening, for some reason! We've taken your feedback into account and Steve has produced and mixed us a whole new, quieter, less intrusive background track! We talk upcoming pre-releases, the improved availability of Legions Imperialis kits, the problems with other products availability, Cormac McCarthy, Simon's Zone Mortalis campaign and his Dark Angels, and then take some listener questions.Logo Design by Nikol KingIntro and Outro Music by Skull CultistBackground music by Orthokeras with vox from Alia Synesthesia and Nicole TurnerAudio Production designed on the Forge world of the Vorpal Goat.
Our latest very special episode is here! We are very pleased to share this interview with Eric and Lucas, the hobby heroes behind the ongoing narrative event series, The Taking of Phyrix. This campaign is played across the United States at multiple venues culminating int he incredible games that take place every year at Adepticon. We talk about what goes into this immersive and engaging Horus Heresy campaign, the history of the campaign both in and out of game, crafting narratives for your armies, and how you can take part in the Taking of Phyrix! Learn More about The Taking of Phyrix with their rules documents, audio narratives, and merchandise, and be sure to join their Discord to take part!Logo Design by Nikol KingIntro and Outro Music by Skull CultistBackground music by Orthokeras with vox from Alia Synesthesia and Nicole TurnerAudio Production designed on the Forge world of the Vorpal Goat.
This month Steve and Simon take a deep dive into the recently released supplement, The Battle for Beta Garmon. The discussion revolves around the supplement as a toolkit of ways to flesh out your armies in interesting ways, especially with the new rules for Blackshields and Shattered Legions. Naturally, there's no avoiding some discussion about the the controversial reference to LADY CUSTODES before wrapping up the episode with mail call from listeners.Logo Design by Nikol KingIntro and Outro Music by Skull CultistBackground music by Orthokeras with vox from Alia Synesthesia and Nicole TurnerAudio Production designed on the Forge World of the Vorpal Goat
Our March episode is here at the last possible moment! We chat about Adepticon, upcoming and new releases, Mechanicum teasers, and at length about Simon's club's mega-battle earlier this month! We close out with our usual Q&A and even tease our planned guests for April. Listen now to this not at all rushed episode at the end of the month!Logo Design by Nikol KingIntro and Outro Music by Skull CultistBackground music by Orthokeras With vox from Alia Synesthesia and Nicole TurnerAudio Production designed on the Forge World of the Vorpal Goat
A Very Special Leap Year episode. What's special about it? Well, we recorded late in the month so this episode is coming out at the very last possible moment on leap day. That's pretty special, we guess. Simon played Legions Imperialis and shares his first impressions and Steve has thoughts about the newly unveiled line of Heresy action figures from Joy Toy. Simon's finally finished the main 54 novels of the Horus Heresy and Steve gets him to grudgingly talk about his least favorite novel in the series. We continue to speculate about the upcoming Beta Garmon campaign book and drool over the imminent plastic Solar Auxilia. Then we wrap up with our usual mail call listener questions about Zoats! This month Steve and Simon explore scenic Beta-Garmon from 28mm and 8mm scales as both of the upcoming supplements for Horus Heresy and Legions Imperialis will focus on that theater of war. Steve asks the important question, "What's up with Custodes?" and Simon says, "They're bad (for the game)." We talk scalpers, limited edition woes, and then ramble about related topics before diving more fully into discussion of the newly announced supplement The Battle for Beta-Garmon and the exciting news about rules for Blackshields, Shattered Legions, and more. Finally, it's time for mail call which, among other questions concludes with some lengthy discussion about Beastmen militias specially for our good friend Sean (who better listen to this episode).Logo Design by Nikol KingIntro and Outro Music by Skull CultistBackground music by Orthokeras With vox from Alia Synesthesia and Nicole TurnerAudio Production designed on the Forge World of the Vorpal Goat
