Feeling Things with Amy & Kat

Nashville Podcast Network

Feeling Things with Amy & Kat is a podcast for anyone who’s ever had feelings—or wants to. Hosted by Amy Brown and therapist Kat Van Buren, this is a space where nothing is off-limits. From deep reflections on childhood to pop culture obsessions to what’s happening in the world, all feelings deserve a seat at the table—big, small, awkward, joyful, confusing, and everything in between. At its core, it’s real friends having real conversations about real feelings. Some episodes go deep, some stay light, but all are rooted in curiosity, honesty, and connection. In a world that moves fast, sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is pause... and feel things.

Episodes

A listener is angry...and there's not much she can do about it...so what do you do when you’re stuck in a situation you didn’t cause and can’t fix? Amy and Kat read a listener email that brings up this question in a funny, but honest way. They discuss radical acceptance and how to move forward without making it worse. Even when you can’t change reality, you can learn how to respond to it differently. The ‘feeling of the day’ is Supported and it all started with a note from a listener who shared this one simple question for another listener: “What’s the best that could happen?” This leads to Kat sharing a VERY powerful story about a client interaction she once had that’ll stick with you. Plus, Amy shares a list of things you can tell yourself to create ‘calm’ before bed (speaking of bed: she also goes over the money subliminals she listens to as she’s falling asleep + why she’s sleeping elevated) and then Kat goes over air baths (shoutout to Benjamin Franklin!!)  Call and leave a voicemail: 877-207-2077 Email: heythere@feelingthingspodcast.com HOSTS: Amy Brown // RadioAmy.com // @RadioAmy Kat Van Buren // @KatVanburenSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Have you ever wondered what life might be like if you stopped worrying about being wanted, and focused on understanding what you actually want? That was the question Hope Woodard asked herself after a string of situationships inspired her to take a break from sex and dating. She went "boysober," a personal concept that sparked a global movement among women looking to prioritize themselves over men. Now, Hope is looking to expand the ways we explore our relationship to relationships. Taking a bold, unfiltered look into modern love, romance, and self-discovery, Boysober will dive into messy stories about dating, sex, love, friendship, and breaking generational patterns—all with humor, vulnerability, and a fresh perspective. Amy & Kat share an email from a listener working in a male dominated profession. She asked to remain anonymous and shared that a supervisor, in front of numerous other people, said he didn’t think that she should do a portion of her job because she is a woman. She didn’t say anything at the time and redirected the conversation, but she’d now like to talk with him about these comments in a non-confrontational way, so she wrote in asking for advice on how to do this in a productive manner. First off, Amy & Kat are proud of her for being able to hold composure after he said something so offensive and secondly, they’re glad she wants to have a conversation with this supervisor (because what he said is not okay!)  They offer their advice and hopefully what they share (like the ‘sandwich technique’ and more) will be helpful to any of you that need to have a tough conversation.    Book Recommendation: The Next Conversation: Argue Less, Talk More By Jefferson Fisher   Tomorrow 5/30 is the final day to get 25% off snail serum products. Amy calls her boyfriend demanding money...and let’s just say, if you need a laugh today, this moment delivers. The ‘Feeling of the Day’ is SHOCKED…times two: 1) Amy tells Kat about a strange experience from a school recital where the teacher outshined the kids!! 2) Have y'all heard about Financial Domination (aka FinDom) where people willingly give their money to strangers...just because they’re told to?? Amy & Kat also discuss influencers and authenticity (do they really wear the Amazon outfits they're pushing?), and they answer some listener questions from Instagram (like how they met & more!) Kat mentions the ‘Friendship Deck’ cards…click HERE to check them out! And click HERE for Snail Serum (and all of Amy’s Biopelle favorites) and use code: HAPPY25 to save 25% your order. Amy and Kat respond to an email from a listener struggling with adult acne, shame, and the emotional toll it can take (especially when you're also a parent trying to set a good example for your kids!) They unpack the layers of conflicting feelings: the embarrassment of breakouts, the guilt for feeling bad about it, and the frustration of being stuck in that cycle. Kat offers a therapeutic lens on how to let two opposing truths coexist, and Amy shares some tips for surviving Accutane. Whether you’ve battled acne yourself or not, this episode is a reminder that our feelings are valid, even when they’re messy. Amy kicks things off with Exhibit A for Kat: a very important tangerine (you’ll get it when you listen). Then they answer a listener's question about a line in their podcast theme song (Walker Hayes is a lyrical genius) and Amy shares a DM with explosive claims about the Karen Read trial. Kat’s Feeling of the Day is ‘Playful’ and she encourages us to randomly pretend we're on vacation to give your weekend date nights fresh new vibes. They close out with unhinged (but funny) parenting hacks from Instagram and share exciting news: until May 30th you can save 25% off of snail serum (see link & code below!)  Click HERE for Snail Serum (and all of Amy’s Biopelle favorites) and use code: HAPPY25 to save 25% your order!!  Call and leave a voicemail: 877-207-2077 Email: heythere@feelingthingspodcast.com HOSTS: Amy Brown // RadioAmy.com // @RadioAmy Kat Van Buren // @KatVanburenSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Amy and Kat respond to a voicemail from a listener who just found out she’s pregnant, but instead of excitement, she’s overwhelmed with doubts about being a good mom to the stress of a husband deploying and starting PA school…she’s in full ‘future tripping’ mode!! Their advice? WTW: Wait to Worry (a simple acronym with a powerful perspective that Amy got from her boyfriend!)  They also share an update from a listener who called in about the solo hike discussion, offering a reminder that some questions about your relationship might actually be support in disguise.  Reminder: fear often just means……you care!! Amy shares how it actually went when her boyfriend met her ex-husband (spoiler: strong handshakes were exchanged) and Kat breaks down the psychology behind why we deflect praise (especially as women) and shares tips for how to receive compliments without cringing (even if a compliment journal sounds weird). They also discuss the Karen Read trail (Body in the Snow), a couple of listener emails, how Kat got tricked into believing a very wrong fact about a particular body part, and more!  Call and leave a voicemail: 877-207-2077 Email: heythere@feelingthingspodcast.com HOSTS: Amy Brown // RadioAmy.com // @RadioAmy Kat Van Buren // @KatVanburenSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
What do you do when someone you love is struggling and shutting you out? Amy and Kat respond to a heartfelt email from a college student whose roommate is battling an eating disorder. She’s heartbroken, overwhelmed, and unsure how to support her friend without completely losing herself in the process. Kat shares thoughts on grief, boundaries, and “wise compassion,” while Amy offers relatable encouragement for anyone stuck in the tension between wanting to help and setting boundaries, so you can focus on your own healing. This one’s for anyone who’s ever felt helpless in the face of someone else’s pain.
