Chez Jann
Jann hosted her 8th annual golf tournament with Enviros this week at the gorgeous Silvertip Golf Course in Canmore. Sarah flew out with some girlfriends for a road-trip through the mountains. Her vacation ends at Jann's house for a live-taping of the podcast with NO editing and some great questions from our listeners. Thank you so much for sending in your questions!
Jann wanted to talk about death and dying in the most hopeful and optimistic ways, inspired by some wacky internet articles; so stay with us. Honourable mention goes to Jann's title idea for this episode, Where There's a Will, There's a Way, because she definitely gave Sarah a pep-talk about her non-existent will. Sarah couldn't resist plucking a song from the Jann's Summer Jams Summer Playlist. And, it's true! There's nothing to fear, especially some made-up reaper. Here's the article Jann references about Quantum Immortality. A note for next week: Sarah is heading to Canmore for Jann's 8th Annual Charity Golf Tournament in support of Enviros so for next week's episode, the theme is "Ask Us Anything!" Send us a DM on socials and don't forget to join us on our new THREADS account!
Jann tells Sarah about a surprise meeting with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and her time in Ottawa celebrating Canada Day. They reminisce about summer jobs they had when they were younger and review a summer essentials list Jann read from Forbes. Send us a voicenote about your first summer jobs in a DM @JannArdenPod on Instagram!
With the Canadian long-weekend upon them, Jann and Sarah discuss many topics including Olivia Chow being elected as Mayor of Toronto, pride month, summer road trips and travel, student summer roommates and more! For YOUR next road trip, please check out the Official Jann Arden Summer Jams Playlist!
Jann invites her high school friend Holly Fortier on the show this week to dig into Indigenous History Month and Indigenous Peoples' Day. Holly is Cree/Dene from Ft. McKay First Nation, Alberta, born in Treaty 7 Territory. Her business, Nisto Consulting, specializes in the development and delivery of Indigenous Awareness Training. Her passion for sharing Indigenous history and culture rises from her mother's inspirational survival from Residential School when she was a child. Holly's mission is to encourage respect and understanding between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Canadians. To that end, she launched an award-winning film and television company called Two Canoes Media. Please find the short-film about her mother's residential school story HERE. 21 Things You May Not Know About the Indian Act:https://www.ictinc.ca/books/21-things-you-may-not-know-about-the-indian-act Learning resources about First Nations, Inuit and Métis across Canada:https://www.rcaanc-cirnac.gc.ca/eng/1621447127773/1621447157184 Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada:https://www.rcaanc-cirnac.gc.ca/eng/1450124405592/1529106060525 National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation:https://nctr.ca/records/reports/ Jann and Rick Mercer's YouTube Adventures:https://youtu.be/sPGIuatMKvc
Jann Arden invited her like-minded twitter friend for a conversation this week about everything from the state of social media to the state of politics in this country. He is a Hungarian-Canadian writer/broadcaster and political commentator, most notably the former host of the newsmagazine series Global Sunday and the syndicated radio talk show Charles Adler Tonight. With more than 40 years in broadcasting, he's excited for his next chapter. Find his new podcast THE CHARLES ADLER SHOW wherever you get your podcasts.
This week, Jann and Sarah welcome fellow media personality Jody Vance, a radio and television host from Vancouver. Over her career, she's been a host for Sportsnet, Breakfast Television, and several radio stations.
