Brant:It's kind of weird in church culture or Christianity or whatever you want to call it. A lot of times we'll talk about anything but Jesus; like everything else but Him, which is really odd. I mean, He's the reason I'm a believer. And same thing with Sherri. So we thought, Hey, let's highlight some Jesus stuff rather than just talk politics or whatever. Maybe talk about Him. So we were thinking about the top two or three things we put on our list for just Jesus moments. We really love from the gospels. So what would you put on there?Sherri:I'd put on, there's a man who is crippled and he's at a pool and an angel comes down and heals everyone at a certain time. And he's never gotten healed. He's been there for decades. And Jesus walks past his mat where he's laying, and Jesus asked him, "Do you want to be made whole?" And that is one of my favorite moments with Jesus, is the fact that He's willing to confront me, and heal me. Both. He's willing to confront the things in me that have kept me from moving forward, and He's willing to heal me.Brant:So the confrontation is him even asking the question, do what you I mean?Sherri:Yes. Where He's like, "Do you want to be made whole?" There's an implication there that there's some stuff going on in your life that hasn't gotten you to this pool where everyone else seems to be able to get to. Because He asked the guy, "Do you want to be made whole?" And the guy's like, well, every time I try to get in and then no one will put me. So He's willing to confront me in my excuses, but He doesn't leave me there. He heals me.
Brant explores the concept of brokenness and humility in the context of church culture, emphasizing that while many people describe themselves as broken, true transformation requires repentance and rethinking one's life in light of this brokenness. Simply acknowledging brokenness without seeking change can lead to pride rather than humility.Click PLAY as Brant illustrates this using the story when Jesus asks a man if he wants to be healed.
Yesterday, I spent time with old friends in the tulip fields in Skagit Valley. We also made new friends and prayed with them in the fields surrounded by God's glorious creation...such a sweet time.
It's never too late to turn toward God. His goodness and unwavering pursuit of humanity despite our flaws and sin is constant. There's a common misconception that God is ashamed or angry with us, but God's persistent love and closeness, even when we fall short, does not end. I hope you find Him, and lean in. You are loved.

Hey, here's a reminder, and this is something I have to remind myself of, and I thought you too, because I think you're human like me, and that is the worst thing that we can do with our lives... the worst thing that we can do in our lives, the biggest mistake that we can make is to walk away from God in shame. There's all sorts of things we can do wrong and have done wrong, if you're like me, but the worst thing I can do is walk away from a God who wants to forgive me and still wants to walk with me. He still wants to walk with you too. He knows all this stuff. He still wants to be with us. He still wants to partner with us in life. He still wants to help us grow up. I'm not walking away from that.
I don't know if you're struggling today with your work, but if you are, I found this quote from Elisabeth Elliot that I thought was so good. And by work I mean it may be your career, it may be just a job or it may be parenting... just the work that you have in your life to do. I love her attitude. This is what she would tell herself. This job has been given to me to do. Therefore, it is a gift. Therefore, it is a privilege. Therefore, it is an offering I may make to God. Therefore, it is to be done gladly, if it is done for Him. Here, not somewhere else, I may learn God’s way. In this job, not in some other, God looks for faithfulness. In this job here, in this place. He's looking for my faithfulness. I like that.
Ran across this quote again, and it hits me every time. Macrina Wiederkehr came up with this. She wrote, "Oh God, help me to believe the truth about myself no matter how beautiful." And that stopped me in my tracks when I saw it because the first thing we think is our brokenness. But He still wants us, we're still made in His image. At the end of the day, we're beautifully made. He actually enjoys us. He wants to be with us. How about that? Lord, allow me to believe that truth about myself, "no matter how beautiful."
