Oestrogen is essential for collagen synthesis, elasticity, hyaluronic acid synthesis and hydration,When the oestrogen levels start to fluctuate during perimenopause, it can have a knock-on effect on your skin. The declining oestrogen will affect your skin’s ability to retain ceramides, fatty acids that help the skin lock in moisture.  Additionally, studies have shown that women lose a significant amount (up to 30%) of collagen in the first five years of menopause.
